Apple Crisp

Updated: Oct 29, 2018

Be cautious: if you ever want to save any for yourself, do NOT bring this to a party! I did this many times and every time I had to fight hard for a tiny bite. (see bottom right picture: picture taken right after dessert announcement)

The recipe is not a novel one. But to make a delicious Apple Crisp does not require a complicated recipe as most others are. Here is my simple & tasty, no-fail version of this extremely healthy and popular dessert:

Requires a 9"-by-14" casserole dish or baking dish

Ingredients:

  • 4 apples (preferably Granny Smith, but any apple works!)

  • 2 cups rolled oats

  • 1 stick of butter, melted, but you can replace this with 1/2 cup of canola oil for a vegan dish

  • 4 tablespoons of flour

  • Juice from 1/2 lemon

  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. Peel and slice apples.

  3. Squeeze lemon juice and 2 tablespoons brown sugar over apples and toss to coat evenly.

  4. Mix butter, oats, flour, and 1/2 cup of brown sugar in a large bowl. If it looks too dry, you can drizzle more salad oil or melted butter. The mixture should not have any white flour (see bottom left).

  5. Assemble in the dish: apple mixture on the bottom and oat mixture covering it.

  6. Bake for around 45 - 50 minutes until topping is golden.

  7. Eat it!
