4-1-1 Lemonade

Updated: Jan 8, 2018

Lemonade, ah... is there any better drink on a sweltering summer day? With a chilled glass and a few ice cubes, lemonade can make anyone's day better.

There's a surprising story to the recipe for this lemonade. It was NOT found from a cookbook or from online, but from a magazine. Yeah, a Popular Science magazine...with all the Food and Wine, Bon Appetit, and Cooking Light lying around the house, we had to pick recipes from a science magazine! It stated that the perfect ratio for lemonade was a 4-1-1: four parts water, one part lemon juice, one part simple syrup.

So take out a pitcher, get a couple of lemons, some sugar, and a lot of water, and get to work!

Ingredients:

  • Water

  • Simple syrup

  • 3~4 medium sized Lemons

Steps:

  1. Juice the lemons: this is a job for those small and sticky hands, usually of someone short and stout. In my household, the younger boy is usually the ideal candidate for this.

  2. Measure the lemon juice, then measure out the same amount of simple syrup, and 4 times the amount of water, so the ratio is 4-1-1 for water - lemon juice - simple syrup.

  3. Mix everything together.

  4. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours.

  5. Serve with ice.

Et voila! Lemonade is one of the simplest drinks to make, and you know how much I like simple.

Now if you'll excuse me, must go drink some more gallons of lemonade...
